These two 3week old baby bunnies had the misfortune of being born inside of a fire pit. On Labor Day somebody unknowingly lit the fire pit for a bon fire to celebrate the holiday. The next morning, they went out to clean up after the festivities and found these bunnies inside the fire pit badly burned and suffering from severe smoke inhalation. They were quick to scoop up the bunnies and contact a wildlife rehabilitator. Upon the bunny's arrival at my rehab center, they were in very bad shape. They had burns on their face, feet, ears and belly and were gasping for air. One of the bunnies I was sure would not survive the night as he was the more badly burned of the two animals. He spent 4 days laying on his side gasping for air, but miraculously on day 5 he got up and begin to eat on his own. It took a lot of time and patience for these little guys to get back on their feet but now they are doing great. The only thing they have to show now for their near-death experience are a few scars around their mouth and the more injured bunny had his ears curl up a little deformed from the high heat. They are due for release next week!
