Lucky opossom!

This little fella was rescued after it was found orphaned, sadly the finder could not find a place to accept it at the peak of baby season, so she made the decision to raise him herself. She got him big and strong and then realized that she wasn't sure how to release him and that's when she contacted us. She brought him over and it was clear that he had no idea how to be a opossum let alone survive in the wild. The finder did their best for him but was not educated about the species and thus did not provide an adequate environment to develop properly. His muscles were underdeveloped from not having space to roam and climb and he had no idea how to eat meat or mice which is their natural diet in the wild, as he had only ever had dried pellets. The finders' heart was in the right place, but it really goes to show that wildlife rehab is best left up to those that are well informed and experienced with wildlife and their species-specific needs. It is illegal to possess a wild animal without a permit for this reason.
